4 x Asian TrafficThe Asian traffic appears to the traveling Westerner first as pure chaos. Only with some adjustment, he recognizes thesitantly, that even this apparent chaos subject certain rules and conventions. However, these are not "laws" laid down, deviations are possible at any time and any day. All participants have to reckon with (almost) all expect and all are trying to drive around difficulties and obstacles with as possible less speed reduction. Another specificity is that everywhere, people moving, pedestrians, cyclists, Rikshaws, mopeds, trucks and even cars. The man is not hidden in a car, but moves visible in this maze. For all the similarity between the four cities Yangoon, Bangkok, Saigon and Phnom Penh differentiate, while Bangkok is certainly taking the western understanding of traffic rules as closely as possible. Recorded in Yangoon and Moulmein, Myanmar, 2005 |
